FAQs

Sustainability

Is Impact Snacks profiting off of carbon offsets like green energy infrastructure and tree planting?

We do not mark up our offsets. For individual carbon offsets including trees and green energy, we charge a $0.99/month flat fee per person regardless of the size of your commitment. This margin is used to manage the offsets on behalf of our Impact Story Creators and any excess margin is invested back into the community through 1% for the Planet or various social causes chosen by our supporters.

How are we at Impact Snacks reclaiming our carbon?

Impact Snacks is reclaiming our carbon by developing green energy infrastructure like solar farms and planting trees in communities across the world. In order to do this, though, we need to keep track of our carbon emissions. From seed to harvest, production to shipment, and all the way to your home, office, or grocery store, we have certified carbon accountants from Clearloop tracking every move our products make. Each of our superfood bars creates just over 0.37 pounds of carbon to produce and ship, but we actually offset 1 pound, more than 250%, of the carbon emitted for each bar. Simply put, we reclaim more carbon emissions than we create.

What is Impact Snacks' commitment to sustainability?

Impact Snacks is committed to creating snacks that are a net positive for the environment. From reclaiming more than 100% of our carbon emissions in our supply chain with the help of Clearloop, to a biodegradable wrapper and post-consumer waste display boxes, we are fully committed to placing people and planet over profits. That means that we’ll never chose a less sustainable option even if it’s more expensive, and we’ll always be transparent about our supply chain and while constantly seeking to improve.

What percent of revenue is donated to good causes?

We’ve partnered with 1% for the Planet to ensure our donations are directed towards certified and reputable non-profits that are actively moving the needle for the environment. Beyond our cash donations, we partner with fellow climate action companies to actively spend our profits on offsetting the carbon footprint of our supply chain, along with the footprint of each and every Impact Snacks Creator. Full transparency is provided our newsletter, The Movement by Impact Snacks. Sign up here.

Is your packaging made from plastic?

Our wrappers are made from 100% bio-cellulose derived from soy, designed to biodegrade into a lush, organic matter by means of a home or industrial compost! Snacking and acting environmentally responsible shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, but unfortunately most of the time, it is. So we created a solution! Our display boxes are made from more than 90% post-consumer waste, and the material is harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable. Even our ink is plant-based! We use a soy-based ink to ensure that harmful chemicals and artificial dyes stay out of our oceans, forests, and food upon decomposition and general disposal.

What is impact snacking or impact shopping?

Impact snacking or impact shopping is simply being intentional and eco-minded in deciding which products to buy and which brands to support. If you can find awesome eco-friendly alternatives to products you frequently use and enjoy, why not Choose Good with your purchases? Cleaner alternatives do exist, and we're here to offer them, support them, and promote them at every turn. Next time you’re shopping for that sweet new pair of jeans or a super tasty superfood snack (shameless plug), it's important to treat your dollar as your vote for a better future for everyone.

Subscriptions and Impact Stories

Does Impact Snacks have a monthly membership or subscription?

We do! We call our subscription program Impact Stories because in addition to snacks, you get to help build what the future of our world will be by supporting sustainable and ethical initiatives in an ongoing manner.

What is an Impact Story?

An Impact Story is part personalized record of the positive change you are creating and part snack and sustainability subscription. We track all of the impact you make whether that be from the carbon reclaimed with each individual bar you purchase or the green energy and tree planting initiatives you choose to support at checkout. As an Impact Story Creator, you will receive your stories in a shareable format by SMS, email or a preferred social platform so you can inspire others to create positive change in the world!

Can I create an Impact Story if I don't want snacks?

Absolutely. Although each snack you buy contributes directly to a positive outcome for the environment and helps us support social causes selected by our social audience, anyone may create and receive an Impact Story without snacks by choosing only to support green energy development or tree planting for as little as $1/month in the checkout process.

What is an Impact Story Creator?

An Impact Story Creator is someone who has chosen to make an ongoing commitment to creating positive change in the world through their purchases. Each creator receives a personalized accounting of the change they are responsible for which is formatted to share on social media so they can inspire others to make better choices for people and planet.

Why should I become an Impact Story Creator?

In a world filled with so much division, waste and suffering, you have the opportunity to become a purveyor of good and a chance to bring light to the largest social and environmental issues of our time.

The more support you put behind ethical businesses, the more large corporations have to change their profits-above-all-else approach to doing business.

An Impact Story is an ongoing commitment (that you may cancel at anytime if you really want to), that ensures you are supporting a deeper level of personal sustainability and transparency for a better world in a way that is perfectly manageable for you. You don't even have to buy our snacks, you can support reforestation or green energy development for as little as $1 per month.

How do I create an Impact Story?

Our checkout process in the shop defaults to making an ongoing commitment of snacks and/or sustainability products on a 30, 45 or 60 day cycle. You choose your snacks, how much you want to pay, how often you want to receive them and the sustainability you are able to support. That's it! You're officially an Impact Story Creator! You'll receive a digital report of your impact by SMS, email or your favorite social platform. If you DON'T want to make an ongoing commitment and create an Impact Story, you may select 'One-time Purchase' at the beginning of the checkout process.

Can I make one-time purchases of your superfood bars?

Yes! You're free to select 'One-time Purchase' at the beginning of the checkout process, but you cannot support additional sustainability initiatives and you won't be able to share your impact with others, which honestly, feels like a missed opportunity.

Shipping and Returns

What is your return policy?

If you're unsatisfied with one of our products, or if our snacks are damaged upon arrival, we will be happy to refund or replace your order! With the products you have left over, we encourage you to give the snacks to someone in need and do your part in reducing waste wherever possible.

Where do you ship your snacks?

Currently we are shipping to the mainland U.S. only (sorry Hawaii and Alaska). We will expand shipping destinations as our movement and our impact grows.

Isn't shipping bad for the environment?

It sure is. Every part of daily life has an impact on our planet. Even sending emails! That’s why we offset (and then some), all of our shipping through carbon credits with Clearloop to ensure our activities do as little damage as possible.

What is your subscription cancellation policy?

Although we’d be sad to see you go, subscriptions can be cancelled (or the quantity and shipping frequency changed) at any time. We’re a solutions-oriented bunch over here at Impact Snacks, so we’d humbly ask you to email one of our team members at hello@impactsnacks.com to see if we can find a better fit for you before we potentially part ways. To cancel your subscription, you can log into the member portal here, or shoot a message to a team member by emailing hello@impactsnacks.com.

Nutrition

If you don't use dairy, where does your protein come from? Isn't whey dairy?

We use pea protein in our 100% plant-based snacks! You are right that whey is dairy, and that, among other reasons, is why we do not use it as an ingredient in our products. Our bars are 100% dairy-free, along with being gluten and soy free!

Why do you use pea protein instead of whey?

Whey is a dairy byproduct that emits far more carbon than pea protein, and supports the mass production and captivity of animals. Choosing a plant-based alternative is a simple way to be greener, protect animals, aid lean muscle, and support weight loss.

Do your snacks contain soy?

Our snacks do not contain soy as an ingredient. While we use a soy-based bioplastic wrapper and soy-based inks in our printing process because they are the most environmentally-friendly packaging options available today, our superfood bars contain no soy at all. They are 100% soy-free!

What about corn?

Yes, our snacks have corn. The prebiotic fiber from non-GMO plant-based starch listed in the ingredients panel is corn fiber. Corn fiber increases calcium absorption and may support bone mineralization! We will add corn to our allergen list on the package.

Are your snacks keto friendly?

Yes, our snacks are Keto friendly! Our snacks are packed with healthy fats from our abundance of almonds, cashews and coconuts, and contain less than 10 net grams of carbohydrates. Additionally, we're always working on new snacks to fit various dietary needs, so if you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear them. Just please email hello@impactsnacks.com with any questions and feedback!

What is a superfood?

A superfood is a food with significantly above-average health benefits derived from exceptional nutrient density. Basically, lots of good things packed into a relatively small amount of food. What is a whole food?

Just as the name suggests, a “whole food” indicates a food that is relatively untouched and natural. Whole foods exclude refinement. These foods embody real ingredients plucked straight from the earth, and believed to aid our bodies’ overall health and prevent disease. The ingredients in our products are all considered "whole foods" since they have not been processed and were grown organically.

Are your products processed?

Our products are not processed. The ingredients in our snacks are 100% whole foods, meaning they are made with plant-based ingredients either entirely unprocessed and unrefined, or unprocessed and unrefined as much as humanly possible! We don’t use any artificial ingredients, preservatives or color.

What are nootropics?

Nootropics are substances with cognitive benefits thought to enhance brain function. As ingredients in various drugs and supplements, nootropics are often marketed for their beneficial effects on memory, creativity, and motivation. Many of these substances are reportedly found naturally in plants, such as the mushroom Lion’s Mane that we use in our products.

What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are a naturally occurring, nontoxic group of substances found in plants and herbs, increasingly used by health & wellness practitioners and enthusiasts to help restore normal cell, organ, and body functioning, as well as grow a person’s ability to resist damaging physiological effects of mental, emotional, physical, chemical, and biological stressors. These substances, as found in maca root, are believed to preserve and promote balance and healthy energy levels, and may play a role in boosting the immune system.

It has been associated with increasing libido in men and women, as well as improving mood, memory, and even athletic endurance. There may also be a link to reducing symptoms of menopause in women. In short, it’s a sexy plant.
